Arsenal secure Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa for £55m

Arsenal have completed the £55m signing of England defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa. The transfer moves the centre‑back to the North London club on a permanent basis, ending his spell at Villa after the summer window opened.

Under Premier League regulations the £55m fee will be recorded as an intangible asset on Arsenal’s balance sheet and amortised over the length of the player’s contract, typically spread across five or six years. Each year a portion of the fee is charged to the profit and loss account, reducing the club’s reported profit for accounting purposes. The same figure is also taken into account when assessing compliance with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, which compare club spending to revenue.

The move must be completed before the closure of the summer transfer window, after which player registrations are frozen until the next window opens. Arsenal will submit Konsa’s registration to the Premier League, ensuring he fits within the 25‑man squad limit for home‑grown and foreign players. As an English national, he does not require a work‑permit, simplifying the administrative process compared with non‑EU signings.

Assuming the contract runs for five years, the annual amortisation charge will be around £11m, a figure that will be factored into Arsenal’s budgeting and future transfer strategy.
