Coventry sign England defender Stephen Mfuni on loan from Man City

Coventry City have signed English defender Stephen Mfuni on a season‑long loan deal from Manchester City. The 18‑year‑old joins the Sky Blues as they seek to improve a squad that sits 18th after two opening defeats.

Mfuni made his senior debut for Manchester City as a substitute in last season’s 10‑1 FA Cup victory over Exeter City. He later spent time on loan at Watford, featuring eight times in the Championship, and has represented England at Under‑19 level.

Frank Lampard, Coventry’s head coach, confirmed the signing as his 11th acquisition since the club’s promotion to the Premier League. “I feel blessed to be here, it’s exciting,” Mfuni said, adding that Lampard expects him to perform in either left‑back or centre‑back roles. Coventry’s early season losses to Arsenal and Hull’s win over Coventry leave them searching for defensive stability.

A season‑long loan means Mfuni remains under contract with Manchester City for the duration of the campaign, returning at its conclusion unless a recall clause or a permanent transfer is later agreed between the clubs.
