Iraola urges Liverpool forwards to give all, not chase full 90 minutes

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola tells his attackers to exhaust themselves early, hints at new signings and prepares for an emotional home debut against Nottingham Forest.

Andoni Iraola told his attacking players that completing a full 90‑minute stint is not a prerequisite; he wants them to give everything and then be ready for substitution. He contrasted this with defenders, who can usually endure the entire match, and stressed that a swift change when a forward is spent is the most effective approach.

The Basque manager highlighted that Victor Muñoz, signed for £34.5 million from Osasuna, is now fit to start after missing pre‑season due to Spain’s World Cup celebrations. Muñoz impressed off the bench at Newcastle and can operate on either flank. Iraola also signalled that the arrival of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint‑Germain, along with another winger before the transfer deadline, should broaden Liverpool’s attacking options.

Iraola’s first competitive home fixture at Anfield will be an “emotional” one, with his wife and two children joining the crowd, as well as new vice‑chair Amit Bhatia. The match pits Liverpool against Nottingham Forest, offering a platform to test the new forward rotation policy.

While the manager will keep a close eye on the stamina of his front line, he remains confident that the squad’s work‑rate will compensate for any reduced minutes. The upcoming game will therefore serve as both a family moment and a practical trial of his philosophy on forward utilisation.
